Seeing Bruce Wrighton Again!
May 14 - June 22, 2013
Seeing Bruce Wrighton’s photography again is pure pleasure. Being in the midst of his photographs is a rare treats beyond words. These are strong reactions to an American I never knew. He died in 1988 at the age of 38, leaving behind him a powerful but limited and lasting body of work. Five years ago at Paris Photo I came across a few images of his; it was love at first sight. There were three images - no more than that. They had everything : the town of Binghamton, the diners, the locals and drifters as well as the cinematic automobiles, sharp colors and composition.
His images said everything with quiet reserve. His was a separate and apart, and the people and places he photographed, were, as Brigitte Ollier described in Libération, «America’s loners». Françoise Morin
Bruce Wrighton’s will be shown this summer at the Centre d’Art et de Photographie de Lectoure during the 2013 edition of l’été photographique, which takes place from June 20th through August 25th
